The Beck Theatre in Hayes has the two biggest nights of early October: No Jacket Required’s Phil Collins show on Friday 2 October and the Opera Boys with Paul Potts on Saturday 3 October. Families get the Natural History Museum’s Dinosaurs Live! on Sunday 18 October. Then half term, 26 to 30 October, fills the Battle of Britain Bunker, the Compass Theatre and Manor Farm with Halloween crafts, sing-alongs and a pumpkin trail. November opens with a Maugham play at the Compass, the fireworks and Remembrance.

  • Uxbridge at War: a walking tour, Wednesday 11 November, 11.30am to 2pm, from the Battle of Britain Bunker to Uxbridge station, with a stop at the Hillingdon Museum. Free, with an optional £10 donation to the Royal British Legion, ages 16 and up (Hillingdon Council).

  • Stockley Country parkrun, every Saturday at 9am, Stockley Country Park, Chestnut Avenue, Yiewsley, UB7 8BT. Free; register once before your first run and bring your barcode. There are no toilets at the course (parkrun).
  • Family Board Games, every Saturday, 2.30pm to 4pm, Uxbridge Library. Free (Hillingdon Council).
  • Chess Club, every Monday, 5pm to 6.30pm, Uxbridge Library. Free (Hillingdon Council).
  • Twilight Yoga, every Monday, 7pm to 8pm, Battle of Britain Bunker. £6 (Hillingdon Council).

The borough’s libraries also run free weekly sessions for babies and toddlers, Tiny Tales, Tiny Tunes and Tiny Senses; the council’s events calendar lists each branch’s day. At the museum next to Uxbridge Library, the Hillingdon at 60 exhibition is on through the coming year, free.

Coming up after that

The Christmas diary is filling up: the two Jack and the Beanstalk pantomimes, Santa’s grottos and the Lido Santa trains and the Bunker’s winter programme. The date of the town centre’s Christmas lights switch-on has not been announced yet.
