Where we cover
The whole borough, named after the town at the centre of it. Uxbridge itself, with the council’s civic centre, Brunel University and the Metropolitan and Piccadilly line terminus, then Ruislip, Northwood, Ickenham and Eastcote to the north, Cowley, Hillingdon and Harefield in between, and Hayes, Yeading, Yiewsley, West Drayton and Harmondsworth to the south. The north and the south of this borough are not the same place and we do not write as though they are.
Why the borough matters here
Hillingdon is a unitary council, so almost everything that touches an ordinary week is decided in one building: planning, bins, parking, licensing, council tax, schools, social care. Add Heathrow, Stockley Park and the Colne Valley and this becomes a borough where a planning file can change a whole neighbourhood. Our job is to read those files and say plainly what is in them.
How we report
From named sources, always linked. Hillingdon Council’s planning register and committee papers, police.uk crime data, HM Land Registry sold prices, Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings, Environment Agency flood warnings for the Colne and the Pinn, and The Gazette. We do not publish a figure we cannot point you to, and where a record is ambiguous we say so rather than guessing at what it meant.
