Driving around Uxbridge in August 2026 means working around a scatter of utility digs on residential roads, plus overnight motorway closures where the M25 meets the M40 on the town’s doorstep. Hillingdon Council approves every set of roadworks in the borough and publishes a notice for each closure on its roadworks page, which also links the live one.network map showing everything dug up right now, council, utility and emergency works alike. For the motorways, National Highways’ travel updates carry the M25, M40 and M4 closures. Those two links will always beat a static page for today’s picture, including this one.

Closed in and around Uxbridge this month

From the council’s published closure notices (checked 8 August 2026, Hillingdon Council roadworks):

  • Nicholls Avenue, Uxbridge: closed 15 to 16 August (Affinity Water).
  • Ashdown Road, Uxbridge: closed 31 August to 15 September (Cadent Gas).
  • Harlington Road: emergency closure in force for a burst water main (Affinity Water).
  • Grange Road, Hayes: closed 27 July to 11 August (Cadent Gas).
  • Clayton Road, Hayes: closed 5 to 24 August (Thames Water).
  • Springwell Lane, Harefield: closed 31 July to 18 August (Affinity Water).
  • Harmondsworth Lane, West Drayton: closed 12 to 21 August (JSM).
  • Park Avenue, Ruislip: closed 17 to 19 August (Affinity Water).

Behind the one-off digs, the council’s borough-wide carriageway resurfacing programme runs through to January 2028, so short-notice evening and weekend resurfacing closures will keep appearing on the notices page for the next two years.

M25: overnight closures at the Uxbridge junctions

The M25 stretch between junction 15 (M4) and junction 16 (M40), the two junctions that serve Uxbridge, is on National Highways’ overnight closure list this week (closure listing):

  • Saturday 8 to Sunday 9 August: anti-clockwise closed J16 to J15, 10pm to 5:30am, including the J16 slip to the M40 westbound.
  • Monday 10 to Tuesday 11 August: clockwise closed J15 to J16, 10pm to 5:30am, with the M4 link roads onto the anti-clockwise also shut.

What it means for you: late-night airport runs are the trap. If you are heading to or from Heathrow after 10pm on those dates, allow for the signed diversion or go via the A40 and A312 instead of the motorway box.

On the A40, TfL’s live corridor status currently lists no works at all on the Hillingdon stretch; the three active A40 disruptions are all inner London, on and around the Westway (TfL A40 corridor status).

Uxbridge sits in the angle between the M25, the M40/A40 and the A4020, with the M25's J15 and J16 both within a few minutes of town.

The geography explains the traffic. The M40 begins at junction 1, the Denham roundabout, just across the county line, where it interchanges with the A40, A412 and A4020; half a mile on, junction 1A is the M25 (junction 16) (M40 junction layout). Eastbound, the A40 Western Avenue is a Transport for London road corridor with live status here, passing north of the town at Swakeleys and Hillingdon Circus. What a day’s parking actually costs

The big town-centre option is The Chimes shopping centre car park: over 1,550 spaces on six levels, cash-free with number-plate recognition, open 6am to 1am (level 1 around the clock). Current tariffs, Monday to Saturday: 2 hours £2.60, 3 hours £3.65, 4 hours £4.70, 5 hours £5.70, 8 hours £9.35, 24 hours £26, with evenings (6pm to 1am) £2.10 and Sundays £3.00 for up to 5 hours. Blue Badge holders park up to 6 hours free (The Chimes parking).

On-street, town-centre pay and display runs 80p per 15 minutes for Hillingdon residents and £1.40 per 15 minutes for everyone else, with a 2-hour maximum stay, generally enforced 8am to 6:30pm Monday to Saturday and free outside those hours, on Sundays and on bank holidays (Hillingdon street parking charges). What it means for you: The Chimes beats the street at almost any duration: two hours costs £2.60 there against £11.20 at the non-resident street rate, and the street’s 2-hour maximum stay rules out a working day anyway.

Buses, and the station

Uxbridge station is the hub: routes 222, 331, 427, A10, U1, U2, U3, U4, U5, U7, U9 and U10 all serve it. Three are worth knowing even if you never ride the rest: the A10 runs direct to Heathrow Central bus station (TfL), the Superloop SL8 runs the Uxbridge Road corridor to Ealing and White City (TfL), and the U1 links Ruislip, Uxbridge High Street and West Drayton station (TfL), the easy way to reach the Elizabeth line. Heathrow, the long-term one

The biggest roadworks story in Hillingdon’s future is not scheduled yet. Heathrow’s third-runway proposals include diverting the M25 into a new tunnel built 130 metres west of the current motorway, with new link roads separating through-traffic from M4 movements; the plans went to government in summer 2025 and no construction date has been set (Heathrow).
